Leadership Camp (14 -16 years and must have completed Grade 9)
The Leadership program is for campers who are interested in developing leadership skills while also enjoying a summer camp program at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre. Activities include forest education programs and all the traditional recreation activities at summer camp.
The Leadership program is a distinctly different experience from our regular camps. The Leadership group will work with an instructor discovering and developing leadership skills in each other and themselves. At the end of the session each camper performs a self-evaluation considering their experiences and perception of themselves as leader then review the evaluation with the instructor. Topics covered in the program include:
- * Group processes: what is a leader, leader roles and group dynamics.
- * Self-Awareness: values, goal setting and evaluating
- * Communication: expression, body language and listening
- * Planning: problem solving, delegation and motivation
- * Safety: assessment, forethought and physical and emotional danger recognition.
- * Interpersonal Skills: trust, honesty, inclusion and positive reinforcement.
- * Stress: identification, cause, coping and prevention
- * Entertaining: songs, stories and games
On the last day of each camp program the group will organize a games day for the other campers using the skills they have developed during the week. The Leadership Program is often the first step toward volunteer and staff positions at Evans Lake.
