Recreational Canoeing Association of BC Canoe Courses

Evans Lake Forest Education Centre will be offering all four levels of RCABC paddler certification courses. Students must be at least 15 years old to register.

2007 Dates: TBA

Basic Tandem No previous experience required.
Students are taught the basics of canoeing: what to wear, canoe parts, basic paddling strokes and canoe-over-canoe rescue.
Basic Solo Prerequisite: Basic Tandem
Students are taught basic strokes for manoeuvring their own canoe and performing a solo rescue. Rescues involve a "get wet" session
Advanced Tandem Prerequisite: Advanced Tandem (16 yrs+)
Students learn about equipment design and materials, knots and water hazards. Paddling skills are developed by refining techniques and learning to vary and blend strokes. Students will be introduced to the RCA BC Paddling Course.
Advanced Solo Prerequisite: Basic Solo.
Students are introduced to canoe history, water hazards and river grading. Advanced strokes, braces, and weight turns are practiced. The emphasis is on performing tight turns with and without momentum. Students will learn the RCA BC Solo Paddling Course.

Each course takes approximately 1 day although the finish time may vary depending on the weather and the skills of the individual students. Formal instruction usually finishes by 4:00 pm, but your instructor is available to assist you until 5:00 pm if you wish to practice or have questions.

Instructor Certification
Evans Lake is pleased to offer experienced paddlers an opportunity to become a certified RCA BC LakeWater Instructor.

Candidates must hold an Advanced Solo Paddler Certificate and attend a 1 day Instructor Clinic prior to attending the Instructor Exam.
