2008 Summer Camps

Evans Lake has been a destination for campers seeking summer programs with a difference since 1960. Our Eco Fun Forest Education programs are designed to teach campers about trees, soils, wildlife, outdoor skills and leadership.

Each summer we offer a wide variety of sessions:

Camp Activities
Every day at Evans Lake is filled with a mixture of structured learning sessions, group recreational activities and free time. Staff lead campers in a variety of sports and field and forest games. Certified lifeguards supervise campers while swimming or boating. During free time there is something for everyone. Campers choose from a variety of activities based on their interests: campfires, archery, fire building, outdoor cooking, map and compass, wood chopping, hiking, songs and skits, swimming, shelter building, fishing, kayaking, volleyball, horseback riding, overnight hikes, canoeing, games, theme meals, ping pong, crafts, and more.

Eco-Fun Forest Education Programs

Our Eco-Fun programs are designed to teach campers about the forest environment and its wildlife, and to develop an appreciation for the role that forests play in our lives. Eco-Fun activities are led by qualified instructors who use games, experiments, and explorations to turn the lessons into a fun part of the Evans Lake experience. Campers will leave with a new understanding and appreciation for the world in which they live

Horseback Riding Option

We have arranged with nearby Sea to Sky Stables Inc., to offer hour-long scenic trail rides along the gorgeous Squamish and Cheakamus Rivers. To ensure safety riders are given instructions from trained wranglers before leaving the stables. We will transport campers to the stables for this event. Campers must indicate if they wish to go horseback riding at the time of registration.

Campfire
Each night there is a special activity to end the day. Hot chocolate and cookies is the only thing that stays the same. Some nights find the entire camp gathered around the fire at the waters edge. Songs are sung, echoes shouted and listened for, and stories told. Other nights  involve skits, night walks, a dance, talent night, or individual campfires led by the Cabin Leaders. Campers go to bed with lasting memories of a busy day.

Leadership Camp (14 -16 years and must have completed Grade 9)

The Leadership program is for campers who are interested in developing leadership skills while also enjoying a summer camp program at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre.  Activities include forest education programs and all the traditional recreation activities at summer camp.

The Leadership program is a distinctly different experience from our regular camps.  The Leadership group will work with an instructor discovering and developing leadership skills in each other and themselves.  At the end of the session each camper performs a self-evaluation considering their experiences and perception of themselves as leader then review the evaluation with the instructor.  Topics covered in the program include:.

  • Group processes: what is a leader, leader roles and group dynamics.
  • Self-Awareness: values, goal setting and evaluating
  • Communication: expression, body language and listening
  • Planning: problem solving, delegation and motivation
  • Safety: assessment, forethought and physical and emotional danger recognition.
  • Interpersonal Skills: trust, honesty, inclusion and positive reinforcement.
  • Stress: identification, cause, coping and prevention
  • Entertaining: songs, stories and games

On the last day of each camp program the group will organize a games day for the other campers using the skills they have developed during the week. The Leadership Program is often the first step toward volunteer and staff positions at Evans Lake.
Space for this program is extremely limited, make sure you register early!

Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAK) (13 – 16 years)

If you are looking for Extreme Summer Adventure then Outdoor Adventure Kamp (OAK) at Evans Lake Forest Education Centre is the place for you! Whether you are a seasoned Evans Lake camper or have never been camping before, OAK will provide you with an exciting outdoor adventure experience. Your Adventure begins at Evans Lake Summer Camp where you and the other “OAKers” meet our dynamic, experienced leaders.  The first day is spent getting to know each other, familiarizing yourself with the equipment that we provide, and practicing the skills necessary for the first part of your adventure...a backpacking trip into the local mountains

The hike takes you into some spectacular backcountry areas providing opportunities to experience nature, up close and personal.  OAK emphasizes safety and zero trace camping. You and your team will have the chance to accomplish more than you might have thought possible.  Physically, the hike is a challenge, but any reasonably fit person will succeed, and the OAK leaders will help you with anything that Mother Nature throws at you.  We provide the equipment and the food necessary for the team to cook their own nutritious and creative meals.  Sleeping in a tent or out under the stars is the icing on the cake.

Once back at Evans Lake, the group will head off for a day spent testing their limits at the Extreme Adventure activity of the session.  Guided by qualified professionals, you are sure to challenge your ideas about what you are capable of.  Each session features a different one of these exciting activities:

  • ZipTrek Ecotour (Whistler)
  • Rock Climbing
  • High Ropes Course
  • Whitewater Rafting

(Not all activities are offered every summer)
